packets of light

"These are little packets of light & you need to plant them early in the year & remember to mark where they were because lots of times they look like weeds in the beginning & it's not until later that you see how beautiful they really are." -Story People

happy father's day...

...to the most intelligent, talented, modest, strong, and generous man I know. Thank you, Daddio, for inspiring me to be the best person I can possibly be. I love you more than words can say.

dreamy

I apologize for my monotonous subject matter over the past two weeks, but I have been endlessly inspired by our peonies this year. The soft pinks and whites, the buttery texture of the petals, the way the morning light seems to illuminate them ever so perfectly...

What has been inspiring you lately?

happy birthday, lala!

Today is my little sister's birthday. I can't believe she is 25...I still remember her as a pudgy-cheeked 2-year old, swishing around the house in her little diaper. Her favorite song was "Lady in Red"...she loved it so much my mom bought her the record, and she'd stand by our little Fisher Price record player and swish swish swish to the music. Her favorite color was "gween," and she always wanted her juice in the "gween" sippy cup. We did everything together right up until I left for college, and all of my favorite memories from growing up involve our many adventures.

Here's to you today, Lala...my sister, my best friend. Thank you for making my life that much brighter. I love you. ;o)

137 flavors

Over the past two weeks I have been helping J at the studio with a rather large project...printing 137 ice cream flavor cards for a local ice cream shoppe!

No two flavors are alike, and neither are these cards; each one has its own unique design made up of vintage wood type. It's been pretty fun digging through the drawers and drawers of type at the studio, and assembling each flavor design is like piecing together a puzzle! Crazy to think that ALL printing was done this way not so long ago...

tiny models

Today I had the extreme pleasure of photographing the R family. Look at these little beauties!! Even though it was raining outside, we had such a wonderful time indoors...snuggling with Evo the lab, dancing around in princess dresses, and posing by the windows {to take advantage of all that natural light!} ;o).

Thank you so much Mom, Dad, K and D! Can't wait to see you all again soon.

Grad school apps, here I come!

If there is one thing I have learned over the past 28 years, it's that I was meant to work with children in some capacity. I find myself constantly seeking out new opportunities involving children and the arts, and the classroom pictured above was my latest adventure!

For the past four months I have been a classroom assistant in two 4th and 6th grade art classes at a local elementary school. Today was my last day, and I probably would have cried like a baby if I wasn't having such a great time {as usual} helping the students along with their latest creations.

I am really going to miss seeing these bright, smiley faces every week. Each and every one of them made my life that much sweeter, and because of them, I have never in my life been more positive that art education is where I was truly meant to be.

{PS: HAHA! I just realized I totally look like a 4th grader. Can you even spot me in there?!}

yellow from a distance

"We have almost reached the pond;
You have left your glasses at home on the table
And squint across the field
To the unfolding skunk cabbage.
Farsighted or near, I can’t remember which
But you say it is only yellow you see,
Which from a distance could be daffodils.
But they are different shapes, the bell and the candle,
And I describe to you how they float
On the marsh, like a harbor of lanterns,
Because I want you to see them as I do,
A thousand tiny sails, each distinct,
Each one among the others, each drifting."

-Karen Whalley
