little moments
The studio was pretty quiet today so I decided to do a little exploring with my camera. Just before the sun went down, I noticed the plants on the windowsill and this crazy-beautiful, illuminated leaf. Lucky for me! Less than fifteen seconds after capturing this shot, the light had already moved on.

polaroid
Just experimenting with some expired film and an old Polaroid SX-70 that I bought a few weeks ago. I can't get enough of the soft, muted tones...so dreamy!

running late
My commute into work this morning was unusually photogenic. I'll admit everything seems a bit more photogenic since starting this blog, but this morning was crazy. I kept passing photo op after photo op {fog-laden field! sparkly, ice-covered tree branches!}, until finally I just couldn't take it anymore. I pulled off onto a side road, trudged through a couple feet of snow, and settled on this random bunch of nettles and dried leaves. Once my feet were successfully frozen, and the reality that I was late for WORK settled in, I reluctantly stopped snapping and headed back to the car. Maybe it was the cold jolt, or the uncharacteristically early dose of inspiration...but today was a fantastic, happy day. Another, please!

a beautiful day
"The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness." -Barack Obama

storybook snow
The snow was so beautiful today, I could hardly pry my eyes away from the window. It looked like something you might read about in a storybook: big, fluffy snowflakes, swirling softly and slowly downward. I could sit and watch snow like this for hours...oh wait, I did! ;o)
Happy Sunday.

next year at this time
When my sister and I were little, we used to love to lie underneath the Christmas tree at nighttime. We’d gaze up into the maze of green, the soft glow of the twinkle lights illuminating our little faces. Our favorite game to play was “Next year at this time,” where we’d talk about what we might be doing or saying a year from then. “A year from now, I’ll be in junior high!” … “A year from now, I might have a boyfriend!” … and so on and so on. Most of the time we’d giggle and gasp at our predictions, and other times we’d sit in silence; contemplating “change” and how it always happened to find us no matter how hard we tried to elude it.
To this day I can’t help but feel a whimsical sense of calm when gazing up at my Christmas tree...a welcome constant in an ever-changing world.

something to look forward to
Even though the temperature outside plummeted to a frigid –15 degrees today, my dining room stayed bright and sunny thanks to these pretty flowers that T. brought home for me on Saturday. Let’s hope they last for three weeks like the last bunch…judging from the weather forecast, we're going to need all the sunshine we can get! Brrrr....
